Bible Verses for Children

Children are precious in the sight of God. The Bible teaches children to honor their parents, obey what is right, be kind to others, seek wisdom, tell the truth, and trust God. Scripture also reminds children that God sees them, loves them, hears their prayers, and is always with them. Whether you are looking for Bible verses to teach your child, verses for bedtime, encouragement for a difficult day, or Scriptures to help children grow in faith, these passages offer simple and meaningful truths.

1. Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV) Children will face many situations they don't understand. This verse teaches them that they don't have to have every answer. They can trust God and ask Him to guide their lives.

2. Ephesians 6:1

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” — Ephesians 6:1 (KJV) Learning obedience helps children understand responsibility, respect, and wise boundaries. Parents can use this verse to teach children that obedience is part of learning how to live wisely.

3. Ephesians 6:2–3

“Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;” “That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” — Ephesians 6:2–3 (KJV) Honoring parents is an important biblical principle. Children can learn to show respect through their words, attitudes, and actions.

4. Psalm 119:105

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (KJV) Life can sometimes feel confusing. God's Word provides direction when we don't know which way to go. Children can learn that the Bible is not simply a book of stories—it can guide their choices and character.

5. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” — Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) Children may sometimes worry about their future. This verse reminds them that God knows their future even when they cannot see it yet.

6. Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” — Philippians 4:13 (KJV) Children will encounter difficult subjects, challenges, failures, and moments when they feel incapable. This verse reminds them to depend on Christ for strength rather than believing they must face everything alone.

7. Psalm 56:3

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” — Psalm 56:3 (KJV) Children experience fear too. They may be afraid of the dark, school, new situations, being alone, or things they don't understand. This simple verse gives them a powerful response: When I am afraid, I can trust God.

8. Isaiah 41:10

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.” — Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) Children need to know that they are not alone. When they are afraid or uncertain, they can remember that God is with them.

9. Proverbs 4:23

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23 (KJV) Children are constantly learning what to watch, listen to, say, and believe. This verse teaches them to pay attention to what they allow into their hearts and minds.

10. Proverbs 15:1

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” — Proverbs 15:1 (KJV) Children can learn early that words have power. When someone makes them angry, responding gently can prevent an argument from becoming worse.

11. Ephesians 4:32

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” — Ephesians 4:32 (KJV) Kindness is one of the simplest ways children can show God's love. This verse teaches them to forgive, be compassionate, and treat others with kindness.

12. Colossians 3:20

“Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” — Colossians 3:20 (KJV) Children can learn that obedience is not simply about avoiding punishment. It can also be an expression of respect and a way of honoring God.

13. Proverbs 20:11

“Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.” — Proverbs 20:11 (KJV) Character is revealed through actions. Children can learn that being a good person isn't simply about what they say. Their choices matter.

14. Luke 6:31

“And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” — Luke 6:31 (KJV) This is a simple principle children can understand. If you want people to treat you kindly, treat them kindly. If you don't want to be bullied, don't bully others. If you want people to include you, look for someone else who may feel left out.

15. Matthew 5:9

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matthew 5:9 (KJV) Children don't have to participate in every argument. They can choose to help make peace. Being a peacemaker means looking for ways to resolve conflict instead of creating more of it.

16. 1 Timothy 4:12

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” — 1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV) Children and young people can make a difference. They don't have to wait until they are adults to show kindness, faith, courage, honesty, and good character.

17. Matthew 19:14

“Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 19:14 (KJV) Jesus welcomed children. This verse reminds us of the importance Jesus placed on children and their place within God's kingdom.

18. Psalm 139:14

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14 (KJV) Children can sometimes compare themselves with others. This verse reminds them that their value comes from being wonderfully created by God. They don't have to become someone else to have worth.

19. Philippians 4:6

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” — Philippians 4:6 (KJV) Children can learn to bring their worries to God. Instead of keeping every fear inside, they can talk to God about what is bothering them.

20. 1 John 4:19

“We love him, because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19 (KJV) Before children understand everything about faith, they can understand this simple truth: God loved us first. Our love for God is a response to the love He has already shown us.

What the Bible Teaches Children

The Bible encourages children to: Trust God. Pray when they are afraid. Obey and honor their parents. Tell the truth. Be kind. Forgive others. Help people who are struggling. Choose good friends. Listen to wise instruction. Control their words. Make peace. Seek wisdom. Treat others with respect. Remember that God is always with them. Know that they are valuable to God. Ask God for help when life is difficult. Grow in faith and character. When a Child Feels Afraid Teach them: “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” — Psalm 56:3 (KJV) They can pray: “God, I am afraid right now. Please stay with me and help me trust You.” When a Child Feels Lonely Teach them: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” — Hebrews 13:5 (KJV) Remind them that even when they cannot see God, they are never outside His care. When a Child Makes a Mistake Teach them that making a mistake does not mean they are a failure. They can confess what they did, ask for forgiveness, learn from it, and try again. “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.” — Proverbs 24:16 (KJV) When a Child Feels Unloved Teach them: “We love him, because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19 (KJV) Their worth does not depend on popularity, grades, appearance, achievements, or what other people think about them. They are loved by God. A Simple Prayer for Children Dear God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for my family and for everything You have given me. Help me obey my parents and listen to people who teach me what is right. Help me be kind to my friends and forgive people who hurt me. When I am afraid, help me trust You. When I am sad, comfort me. When I make mistakes, help me learn from them. Give me wisdom to make good choices. Help me tell the truth, speak kindly, and treat everyone with love and respect. Please guide me every day and help me grow closer to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
