Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Guiding Verses is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data. We keep this simple and honest — no legal jargon.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. Your password is hashed using bcrypt — we never store it in plain text.
Usage data
We track which verses you view, save, and download to improve recommendations and generate analytics. This data is linked to your account if you are signed in, or anonymous if you are not.
Uploaded content
Profile avatars you upload are stored on our servers. Verse images are uploaded and managed only by administrators.
2. How we use your information
To provide the service
Your email is used to create and manage your account, authenticate you, and send you notifications you have opted into.
To improve the platform
Aggregated, anonymised usage data helps us understand which verses and collections resonate most with our community.
To communicate with you
We send only the emails you have opted into on your Profile page. You can unsubscribe at any time.
3. Data storage and security
Storage
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database. We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (TLS) and hashed passwords.
Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days.
Third parties
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.
4. Cookies
Authentication
We store a refresh token in localStorage to keep you signed in across sessions. This is not a tracking cookie and contains only a signed token identifier.
Preferences
Your display theme preference (Light/Dark/System) is stored in localStorage on your device.
5. Your rights
Access
You can view and edit your personal information at any time from your Profile page.
Export
You can request an export of your data (saved verses, boards) from the Danger Zone section of your Profile.
Deletion
You can permanently delete your account from the Danger Zone section of your Profile. This removes all your personal data.
6. Contact
Questions
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, please contact us through the About page.
