Jerusalem is called the Holy City because it was chosen by God as the spiritual center of Israel, the location of His Temple, and the setting for many of the Bible's most significant events. It is also the city where Jesus was crucified, buried, rose again, and from which the gospel spread to the world. "Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city..." — Isaiah 52:1 (KJV) The Bible refers to Jerusalem as the Holy City in both the Old and New Testaments.
